Despite its promising premise, the bride of habaek was not a good drama. Its slow pace and a rushed ending left me wanting to bang my head against the wall. The story itself had its moments, but most of it was just overdone. I felt like the entire series was trying to make up for its lack of originality with overdone melodrama and unrealistic situations.

The show follows a future king from the heavenly realms who comes to earth and completes various tasks in order to ascend to the throne. In this case, the Water God, Habaek (Nam Joo-hyuk from Start Up 8) visits the human world in search of sacred stones that will help him reclaim his rightful position. He enlists the help of his servant in the human world, psychiatrist So-Ah (Shin Se-kyung from Rookie Historian-7.5). Unfortunately, she doesn't Where to watch the bride of habaek believe in the gods and mistakenly thinks of him as a lunatic when she first meets him.

As she helps him acclimate to life on earth and recover the sacred stones, So-Ah slowly begins to fall for him. But she also struggles with her demanding medical practice and her family's ancient duty to serve the reincarnated water god.

To top it off, she's also juggling the demands of her coworkers, her patients and her mother, who tries to force her to marry Habaek. Then there are the gods who seem to want to make trouble and complicate everything. It seems like there's no end to the chaos that these two will have to wade through.

Overall, I didn't really enjoy the chemistry between So-Ah and Habaek. Most of their banter felt more like bickering than flirting and lust. Plus, the way they kept referring to each other as "master" and "servant" was a little off-putting. I think it's a matter of taste, but their pairing just didn't work for me.

Nam Joo-hyuk was adequate as Habaek, but I didn't feel he was able to convey his good qualities like other male leads who have played similar roles. His kinder & redeeming moments just seemed more forced than real to me. Plus, I thought he overplayed his "smile twitch" to the point of being annoying. He also failed to convince me that his curse made him become a child during the day and revert to an adult at night.
